Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge FL

We have been chillin in Florida while the rest of the country is being hit by a real chill 🙂  Visiting with family and friends and counting down the days till we leave and renew our precious venture !  In the meantime, sit back and enjoy our blogs as we recap and bring you up to date in the coming week.

Looking for wading birds and water fowl in Florida?  Head to Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge just off the coast from Titusville FL.  Do the names ring a bell?  The Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Air Force Station share the island, the launch sites of American human space flight.    For the birds and rockets to share this island seems incredible, but it is a testament to the efforts of all who have protected this wildlife sanctuary.

As the sun began to drift lower in the western sky, we visited Blackpoint Wildlife Drive Park.  What a treat!  Seven miles of dike road bordering marsh and wetlands full of birds of every sort.  Your car acts as a blind as long as you drive slow and cautiously.

Merritt Island has a lot to offer wildlife lovers as well as frolicking sun lovers on the 24 miles of undeveloped beaches of Canaveral National Seashore.

As the light dwindled in the setting sun, the birds were preparing for the evening just as we left the park.  This area offers unparalleled access to all sort of wildlife, we hope you can visit it and enjoy our precious preserved lands 🙂
